Local And Global Travel
The Higher Learning Program | Summer Themes | News And Events
A core component of the Higher Learning program is moving youth beyond familiar boundaries. Therefore, students travel to various places around the town, state, region, country, and world.
For example, students may walk to the nearby college in town, journey to Baltimore and Washington, D.C, visit orchards and organic and sustainable farms in the county, and experience a living history center in Maryland.
Older students who have been with Higher Learning for at least a year have the chance to travel internationally to a specific country. There they learn about the social/cultural/political environment and community building activities in that locale. They study the language, culture and challenges of the people, visit with change agents, and make links between social problems and solutions in that country and their own communities.
During the Saturday Program, the 14-17 year olds may attend an overnight college tour to learn about different schools, college life and preparation.
